Dustin and Becca drove down from Fairfax for a cookout and to hang out with the family! While Chris was slaving over hot coals, Daniel, Dustin and Ryley played a little football in the backyard. Olivia had fun playing in the pool that we bought for her to cool off in and Jonas was just happy as a clam stuffing his face with crackers. I love having them here!

Happy Father's Day! I forgot to mention in my post from yesterday that my lil sis Kristen and her family came in last night and will be staying with us for a week. It was nice to have visitors over Father's Day weekend which is something we never had before. After I got off work, Chris, Ryley, Kristen, Daniel and the kids braved the crowds at the store and we bought a bunch of steaks to grill and other yummy food for a Father's Day Feast. The weather was pleasant and we ate outside and the guys found some time to throw the football around. Chris, of course received the obligatory goofy Father's Day cards, a wallet, the movie Taken on BlueRay and I got him a totally retro beach bike. He got me one for Mother's Day last year and I loved it. He wanted one too ;) So now all we need to do is go to the beach.

Yeah! It was Grand Opening Day at Wegmans! Even though it was Father's Day, the store opened at 7am on the dot with the traditional "Wegmans Cheer" (Gimmie a "w"...) lead by our awesome store manager, Chris. You can see from the picture below that the line wrapped all the way around the building. It was CRAZY in the store. I was kinda grateful I could stay in my sign shop if I so desired. I did take more pics, but unfortunately they were a little too blurry to post :(
Whoops! I forgot to post this pic earlier in the week for {Project} 356. I woke up one morning to this pretty sunrise. Chris forgot to take the flag down the night before and when I went to get the paper the sun was shining through it. I thought the lighting was kinda cool!
Well, for the past several weeks I have been preparing for the Grand Opening of the new Wegmans in Fredericksburg. Needless to say it has been extremely busy and there were times where I wondered if all of the signage would get done or not. Thank God I had a team of three other people from other stores that were here to help me. Colleen, Char & Sean were a Godsend. During the past week we were working 10-12 hour days to make sure all of the departments had the signage they needed.
I would have to say that it has been quite the learning experience creating these signs. After 3 years of art school and countless hours creating projects on the computer, creating signage for the store is done in a way that is very "old school" using foamcore board, Xacto knives, spray paint, Velcro, foam tape, glue gun and paint markers. It's like I have gone back to ART101. The only thing I use a computer for is to print off text to enlarge it and trace it on foamcore using an overhead projector. Oh I am not complaining. I absolutely love what I am doing. I totally enjoy creating new color combinations with spray paint and building 3D signs. It's fun. I get to do arts and crafts all day and get paid for it :)

Since we moved to Stafford almost 7 years ago (wow...this is the longest we have lived in one place), it has almost become a tradition to visit Gary's Ice Cream every Sunday evening after dinner in the summertime. We love their shakes! I'm not sure how long this little establishment has been around for but it seems to be a household name in this neck of the woods. It's kind of a Mom & Pop place, decorated like a 1950s Soda Shop with the music to go along with it, pinball machines and outdoor seating. There is even an Elvis impersonator that performs there once in a while. The only thing it's missing is the car service where your food is brought to you by a server on rollerskates. Hmmm...I wonder if my mom still has a poodle skirt I can borrow...
Today I was in creative mode. Tomorrow is my last day of training at the Potomac Wegmans. I wanted to give a little something to Colleen and Amber as a thank you for all that they did to prepare me for when I take over the sign shop at the new Fredericksburg Wegmans. We use clipboards all the time at work and we also like chocolate. So I figured a decorative clipboard and a tin filled with M&Ms would be a nice little gift. ;)
