Can you tell by my last few posts that I am in the mood for fall? I have Halloween on my mind and so does Fresh Crops-the scrapbook event planning company that I design limited edition project kits for. The company is turning 2 years old in September and their Birthday Bash Crop is sold out! The kit that I created for this crop uses the new Halloween papers from Echo Park Paper Co. You can see sneak peak from sections of the layout below. This new paper company has quickly become one of my favorites! Their high-quality, double-sided papers are wonderful to work with and the element stickers are fabulous too! Not only do they have great paper products, but they also created digital versions of some of their lines as well! You can purchase the digital versions through JessicaSprague.com. I am sure you will find that their whimsical lines will complement your favorite photos!

Just thought I would do a quick layout of my my pretty pink cast! It has only been one week since I've had it on and it is driving me crazy! I thought I was going to be non-weight bearing for 2 weeks. Boy did I get that wrong. I think it will be more like 4-5! Oh well! All of this down time is allowing me to focus more on designing digital products, social networking and getting this blog up and running a bit more! I do have to admit, I am loving this time at home!

Just thought I would tease you a little bit with a picture of the next kit I am working on–"Haunting on 5th Ave." Inspired by Tiffany & Co., you can tell by the colors that it's not your conventional Halloween kit! It's a little more sophisticated and grown up. For those of you who know me, you will probably be surprised to see spiders. You know I can't stand the real thing. Creating them on the computer was really creepy for me! There were times when I would open my laptop and they would scare me to death because I would leave my work in progress up. I just don't like spiders. But I wanted to include spiders that were "elegant-looking"(if there is such a thing) in this kit because the inspiration for the kit is an elegant one! Make sense?
I am still in the process of researching shopping carts to sell my kits, as well as applying to various digital scrapbook stores to sell my kits in. I will keep you posted as to which way I will go-my own cart or another store! In the mean time, I was asked to create a kit as part of a blog hop, which I am really excited about! More information will be coming soon!

I passed Jessica Sprague’s The Art of Digital Design Class! The five-week course began at the end of May and although the class ended in June, we were given until August 31 to submit a portfolio of the digital kit we created. Knowing I was going on vacation mid-July, I wanted to complete and submit it before our family headed to the beach. Creating the kit totally consumed every waking minute that I had–and I loved each and every second of those minutes! I submitted my portfolio just before we took our beach vacation and my review was waiting in my inbox on the day I returned home! I was thrilled with such positive feedback!
Now many of you know that I am a graphic designer by profession and may wonder why in the world would I be looking for a certification as a digital designer. I had a pretty good idea of how many of the digital elements, such as paper and tags, found in downloadable kits are created, but I still felt there was more to learn. That there was a more organized way of creating the type of digital art that I wanted to create for others to use and enjoy. While art school taught me the theory behind design and how to use the Adobe programs, I still felt the need to learn how to use the programs for creating things other than posters, brochures, annual reports, business cards, etc.
And that is exactly what Jessica Sprague, (and Carina Gardner) did with this class.
Many digital designers and companies are unwilling to share how they create their digital products. I have to wonder if there are those designers out there that are not happy that this class came about! Jessica is an amazing instructor and extremely talented designer. Her generosity in sharing her wealth of knowledge during this class was invaluable. I feel blessed that I was able to take part in it!
Our certificates and special “blog blinkie” will arrive sometime in September. I was going to wait until then to post pics of what I have done. But I am too excited so I thought I would post them now. We were given the freedom to create a kit around any theme we wanted. I struggled between beach, halloween, and lacrosse. With my son Ryley being a lacrosse player, this is the theme I went with. I did some research and there really wasn't a whole lot out there for this emerging sport. The kits and embellishments I did find were too neutral-a lot of black and white-and I wanted something a little more colorful. After looking at the different high school colors in our area and those of college teams that had established lacrosse programs, my color scheme grew pretty large and not wanting to delete any of the my colors, I decided to break the colors into two groups: warm and cool. This is what I did:
What do you think of them? I will have these kits up for sale shortly. I am still researching which shopping carts would best suit my needs! I will keep you posted! I did create a small "Fall Freebie" kit for you to download and enjoy! It is very generic...intended for no specific sport...meant to create 6x6 pages. The kit includes: 2–12x12 Four-Block Papers (similar to some of the We R Memory Keepers papers), 1–6" Twill Tape, 2–Word Art Stamps, 2–Journal Tags and 2–Brads. Please note that the drop shadows are for preview purposes only! Click on the link below to download!
