Yesterday on Facebook I posted that I was actually in my studio, pulling out scrapbook paper and getting ready to make something "halloweenie". After months of not being able to create something fun and decorative, it was pure bliss for me to spend the afternoon with paper, adhesive, brads and scissors scattered about my studio. I have a long list of creative-crafty things I've been wanting to do for a long time. Literally for years. And now that I have the time, one by one, I am going to start to check them off!
I bought this set of 3 stackable Halloween boxes a few years ago while shopping with my sister. It was more of an impulse buy–cheap in price and in quality-but I liked the folk-artsy look of them and thought they would be a cute addition to my Halloween decoration collection. As you can see from the picture below, they got pretty beat up.
The structure of the boxes themselves were fine, it's just that the decorative paper on the lids were starting to rip and peel away (the stars on the sides are actually painted on). I have quite the collection of Halloween scrapbook paper and since my boys are long past their trick-or-treating days, I figured I would put the papers to good use and redecorate them. I ended using My Mind's Eye "Haunted" line by Carina Gardner. The kraft-colored paper with the black flocking give the boxes the eerie, elegant feel I was looking for. What do you think? I'm pretty happy with the way they turned out!
I can't even begin to explain how good it feels to be in my studio creating again! Life over the past few months has been quite busy with moving to Europe, waiting for our things to arrive, unpacking and exploring Latvia. I even took a 6-week design job while we were waiting for our household goods to get here. But I am happy to say that things are finally slowing down and I am looking forward to sharing all things creative here on September Blue as well as give a little peek at what life is like here in Latvia-which brings me to my next few photos: Fall on Pleskodāles.
Pleskodāles is the name of the street we live on. Fall is in full swing here in Latvia and the colors are changing rapidly (I was told that last year the first snowfall came October 15). I thought I would snap a few pictures to share with family and friends. Fall is my favorite season in the states and will no doubt continue to be here in Europe!
I was in front of our gate when I took the above photo, but I have a view of this tree outside one of the windows in my studio.
