So I've been thinking. You know how I gave away a "Week 1" word art title circle in my Project Life : Week 1 post? And do you recall that I mentioned I will have a new circle each week that will coordinate with the Clementine Core Kit? Well, I changed my mind. It dawned on me that I am using both the Clementine and Cobalt Core Kit Collections in my album! There are going to be weeks when my title card will come from the Cobalt collection and there are probably other scrappers out there that are doing the same. Sooooo...what I decided to do was create 2 weekly word art title circles to coordinate with each kit instead of just the one. That way which ever kit you are using, you can be sure your word art circle will match! If you downloaded the "Week 1" word art title circle from the previous post, do me a favor and trash that one! The "Week 1" download below has title circles for both the Clementine and Cobalt Collections. And while you're at it, download "Week 2" as well! Title circles for both collections are in that download, too!
Week 2 was the first full week without the kids being here and I was trying to get back into a regular routine to include working out, grocery shopping, laundry, spending time with friends and really making Project Life a part of my daily routine! I'm slowly establishing a workflow for PL and as the weeks go on I'm sure I'll get in a comfortable routine and the picture-taking and journaling will become a habit. Like in Week One, I did learn a lesson or two:
Lesson One: I found that the 3x4 journal cards and 3x4 pockets in the page protectors are just slightly smaller than 3" (I actually figured this out last week but forgot to mention it). They are more like 2.975x4. So even though I printed two 3x4 photos on one 4x6 photo paper, I had to trim a one-sixteenth of an inch off of each side to get the photos to slide in the protector nicely. No biggie. Just thought I would mention it!
Lesson Two: I learned to let go of keeping my photos on my weekly layouts in chronological order. What a liberating feeling! Between the photos, filler cards and journaling, it was driving me crazy trying to organize them chronologically within the divided page protectors that I chose to use. By adding a days of the week sticker from the Core Collection to the journal cards or photo is just what I needed to do to establish a time frame. Perfect solution!
For Week Two, I used the 6x12 divided page protector along with Design A and a mix of paper and digital elements from both the Clementine and Cobalt Collections. I really wanted to keep my photos and journaling within these two protectors, so in order to accommodate all the elements I needed to include, Week Two is somewhat interactive!
I used the green color from the Cobalt collection to make my Weekly Word Art Circle. Make sure you click on the link above to download it! (remember, if you are using the Clementine Collection, there is a separate one in the zip file that will coordinate!).
On the back side of the 6x12 protector I showcased three photos of Zoe enjoying some outdoor time in the snow. It was her first snow and she absolutely love it! I honestly felt like I had a toddler in the house. She was really fun to watch romp around in the snow drifts.
Using all three photos didn't leave a lot of room for journaling so hid one of the journal cards behind the bottom photo. In order to make it easy for the card to be pulled out I made pull tabs using the extra elements from the digital version of the Clementine Collection. I simply copy, pasted and rotated each of the four individual file tabs that were in the kit and moved them together so the tops and bottoms were touching. To make the different sizes, I grouped each tab together, copied it and then used the scale tool to shrink them to 75% for the medium size and again at 50% for the smaller size.
For the pull tab on this particular journal card I used the smallest size which is about 1.5" long.
My only concern about hiding the journal card was that I didn't want it to accidentally fall deep into the protector and be too difficult to pull out and read. So I cut 4x6 rectangle from black cardstock, rounded the corners and mounted the journal card to the right-hand side. I then folded the file tab in half and attached it to the card. This way the cardstock acts as a "stopper" and you can't push the journal card too far inside the protector!
Project Life is all about keeping it real and documenting the everyday. So excuse the silly picture of me in the next layout with the pink cap on my head! It was time for a cut and color this week and I snapped a quick photo of myself going through the process. Not the most attractive picture, but again, it is part of the everyday (or in the case of hair coloring, every 5-6 weeks).
I really made use of arrows in this layout. They either give direction as to which journaling goes to the corresponding photo or to pull to reveal the journal card as in the photo below:
The first three photos on the bottom row of the layout are from Instagram. I finally figured out how to use it and I'm so excited about it! I resized the photos to approximately 3x3 and mounted them to a Grid Journal Card. I attached the larger of the folded file tabs to a journal card, wrote about our traditional Saturday Night Dinners and placed the card behind the photo of Zoe.
I think my favorite story of this week is the one about the glove. On Friday, I met friends at a little French bakery on the edge of Old Town. As soon as I walked in I noticed a single glove that was placed on the coat rack in the corner. This little act of kindness is something I see in Riga all the time. Whether it is a glove, hat, mitten or baby shoe, someone will pick it up and place it on a window sill, tree branch or some other obvious place in hopes that the rightful owner will remember where he or she misplaced it and come to find it. I get the biggest kick out of it because it isn't something you would see in the States. I wrote the story about it on a bi-fold journal card and placed it in the slot above the photo.
Well, that is all for Week Two. I'm not sure if any of you follow Pinterest or not, but a few weeks ago there was a pin for POTD ideas for the month of January. I didn't follow it for the first two weeks, but plan to from now on! I'm looking forward to that challenge!
