It's hard to believe that the first week of 2013 gone and my Week One page layout is complete! I am changing things up a bit this year and starting my calendar week on a Monday instead of Sunday. Why? For a few reasons. Last year when my weeks went from Sunday-Saturday I would spend my Sundays in my studio (kind of ignoring Chris), prepping my layout and blog post for Monday. By changing my weeks to Monday-Sunday, I would be able to include an entire weekend in one layout, giving me more time with Chris and spending a quite Monday working on my layout for a blog post on Tuesday. Make sense? So it's Tuesday and I am ready to show you this year's title page and Week One layout:
I am super happy with the way this turned out! I am using the Seafoam Edition of Project Life this year. The first few weeks of 2013 I will have to use the digital version of Seafoam (available from AC Digitals) until the paper version is available on Amazon (hopefully it comes available this weekend!). Cathy Zielske has awesome Project Life title page cards available on her blog as a free download. Click here to view them on her blog. I love the clean, graphic look of them, but I wanted to use the color scheme from the Seafoam collection (Cathy's originals are a gorgeous orange and gray color). So I downloaded her PSD files and replaced the patterned papers with those from the Seafoam collection. I even changed some of the colors of the Seafoam digital papers to get exactly what I wanted. That's why I really, really like the digital versions just as much as the "real life" paper collections-you can manipulate them to create something new, but still works with the kit!
The colors in this collection are so bright, modern & cheery!
I love this monogram card from Cathy's free download!
The circle above is just like the one I created for the Weekly Word Art Titles but changed it up to work with my title page. Super fun!
I figured it was safe to include photos from New Year's Eve in my layout since the photos were taken just a few minutes after midnight on January 1st! Our neighbors that live below us had a big, formal New Year's Eve party. We rang in the new year with some good looking people! The food was great and the punch they made was wonderful! By 1245am I was turning into a pumpkin and went home. But that didn't stop Chris and Ryley from staying out. They never got home until 4am!
The Christmas decorations came down this week. The apartment looks so bare now. It took about two days to do all the decorating and only 4 hours to take it all down. The orange arrows you see in the photo below are from the Clementine Collection. I have a bunch of those left over. I really like to use them on journal cards to match the journaling to its picture.
There was a sad note this week as Ryley headed back to Florida to begin the second semester of his sophomore year at the University of South Florida in Tampa. I'll miss him. My heart just breaks in two whenever I have to say good-bye to my boys. It is really hard to be so far away from my kids. On his last day here he slept until 3pm! I made him an afternoon breakfast of bacon, eggs and toast. That night we had Indian food and then went to the pool hall to shoot some pool. Again, I turned into a pumpkin early and they stayed out late!
So as much as I love the Seafoam Edition Project Life Digital Collection, it is missing something that the Cobalt and Clementine Digital Collections had–the Extra Elements. They were little embellishments such as labels, word art, arrows, etc, that you could add to your digital layouts or journal cards. I liked to print and mount them to 3x4 or 4x6 pieces of paper to create my own filler cards. But for some reason they aren't in the latest collections. I hope some are created as an add-on kit! I needed a 4x6 filler card for my page and ended up creating my own. I cropped the orange polka-dot paper to 4x6, added a white rectangle with the words "love this life" and then rotated it diagonally across the paper. I printed it, rounded the corners and slipped it into my page! Viola!
What do you think of my Week 1? Thanks for reading! Check back next week for Week Two...
...What? What's that you say? You thought there was a freebie? Why yes! Yes there is! Actually there are 52 of them!!! It's a year's worth of Word Art Title Circles that coordinate with the Seafoam Edition of Project Life! They are BIG! 3.5 inches round-but I think they are a great compliment to the Seafoam collection. PLEASE NOTE!!! In the Week One title photo you see the the date "January 1-6" printed on the circle. This line of text is NOT, I repeat, NOT in the file. Why? Because some people begin their weeks on a Sunday and others begin their weeks on a Monday. I wanted you to decide which date to start with. If you would like to add the text as I have done on my circle simply add a text box in Photoshop. The font I used is Helvetica Lt Std, Light Condensed at 18pt. Click the link below the photo to download the zip file! You can see another way to use this word art by reading this post. This freebie is available for a limited time only! Download now before it's gone!
Edit: As of February 1, 2013, the Weekly Word Art Titles are no longer available as a free download. You can purchase them in my shoppe "Blueprints" for $2.99.
